  • Video gone black after update

I installed Edius Pro 4.0 on a new PC and realised the video output in Edius was all black, with just a few brighter spots inbetween where the original video was almost white. All other player on this PC worked fine.

Then I installed the Edius 4.5 update to see if this solves it and indeed Edius is now playing all video fine. HOWEVER, now all other players show the video output in black, regardless of player or format. I tried Windows Media Player, QuickTime, RealPlayer and WinDVD with DVDs, .avi, .wmf, .mov and .mpg files. The output is always the same, i.e. essentially black.

My graphics card is a 8800 GTS with the latest drivers installed, in case this is important.

Does anybody know what causes this and how I can resolve it?

    Many thanks.

    Did you install 4.5c?

This fixed my problem with Xplode Pro 4 showing black video in its transitions for avi backgrounds.

Yes, that's the one I have. Edius is working fine, no problem at all. It just seemed to have messed up all other players on my system and I have no idea what happened and what to do about it.

It seems like a codec issue.

From your description, the problem occurred with the Edius install, so it must be something to do with the installation procedure.

A reinstall of Edius (and the codec along with it) should sort the problem.

Thanks Raja. I used VideoInspector to check the codecs and they seem to be in order. I also reinstalled the Canopus codecs but nothing has changed. Given that it affects all file formats and players, could the issue come from some other settings that have been changed?

I am a bit shy of reinstalling Edius as I am in the middle of a larger project right now.

FOUND IT! So let me answer my own question. I looked through the video settings of my graphics card which for some reason had been altered. Restoring default settings put everything back into place and all video seems to be playing back fine now. I don't remember altering the settings myself, but I updated the drivers recently.
