One nice thing about Blu-Ray is that rewriteable media is readily available, so you can experiment without making tons of expensive coasters.

You might as well do the firmware 2.60 update and see if it will play on yours, and it it doesn't
then take it to BB or CC to see if it will play in a BDP-S1, I know that will play them.

If you have a disc that you have burned, take it to a CC or BB and try to play it in one of the bdp-300's. That will be a good test.

Here is a link with the latest firmware for that unit.

I did not see anything on BDMV support listed. But, the sony site has the bdp-300 playing bdmv discs in the product lineup.

If that player is the bdp-300 or 301, good luck on getting it to play a BDMV disc. It is supposed to get that function in the next update, maybe!
The BDP-S1 will play it. The two new ones being released on October 31st, are supposed to be able to play them as well. I'm sure there will be a firmware update soon for the 300.
You can check the roxio DVDITHDPRO forum for the latest on players that will play BDMV discs.

By the way, I tested Adobe Encore CS3 yesterday and was able to author a Blu-ray disc with that working directly from an Edius HQ AVI file. That had to be transcoded, but it was accepted by Encore for the project.

I'm assuming they plan to leave the HD authoring up to other companies unless they have some secret deal brewing to buy Ulead or Roxio (hint hint). In the meantime, here are some recommended settings from the Blu-ray user forums for encoding from an Edius timeline to author in Roxio's software:

    MPEG 2 HD 1920x1080i

    Generic ISO MPEG stream
    MPEG-2 Elementary Stream
    Width 1920
    Height 1080
    29.975 Frame Rate NTSC
    Upper/Top Field First
    16x9
    High Quality Encoding
    Use Closed GOP (checked)
    CBR
    1 pass
18300 bitrate (you can play around with this)
    Prolile/Level [email protected]
    Intra DC Precision 9
Use Strict GOP bitrate control (checked)
    Use Audio if Exist
    Audio Stream Type PCM/WAV
    Sample rate 48.0
    Channels 2 ch
    Bits/Sample 16

A template has been provided in the ProCoder forum- why it has not found it's way into a ProCoder/EDIUS update yet - I do not know <sigh>

You can go up to 40mbps for Blu-ray Movie Discs.

Dude, this has been covered a few times lately - try a search. In the mean time, blue Ray (don't quote me) supports 1920x1080 Mpeg 2, 1440x1080 Mpeg 2 up to 25mbps - to be safe???

Not 100% so do some searchin :)
