  • How to import 24p to timeline correctly?

    Help me.
How can I import 24p footage to 30p timeline without streching it to 30p.
I need every frame corresponding without streching or blending it to 30p or sound sync.
I don't care about sound sync or faster speed of the footage.
For me smooth playback is important.
I Just try to change speed of the footage to 120% but anyway it has some jerky frames .But Why? How can I do it correctly?

What you try can't be done lossless.
Frame rate conversion can be done from tools or machines (e.g. Snell & Wilcox) which are extremely specialized to to exactly this, but these are much expensive.

what if you export the 24p file from a 24p project to tga still sequence

then load the tga sequence in the 30p project

This way I cant see any difference related to a simple speed up 24p -> 30p! ;)

well, if I place 24 tga still images on a 30p timeline, then I need to add 6 more before I have one second, so technically it should work

It would be much easier to place the clip in BIN, apply 30 frames & then send it to the timeline.
It will end with the same result just with less effort. ;)

yes I know, I was just demonstarting that it will work with tga stills and there will be no frame blending or jumps

the simplest way is to do ALT+E and tick the nearest frame option - this will conform the clip without blending frames

Sadly, this will end in micro judder, what's far away from playing smooth.
If it's not needed to have progressive frames, I recommend to apply a pulldown.

I've try nearest frame option before, but anyway it has some jerky frames about once per second. Even when I speed up it to 120% But Why?

Please tell us, what is your work intended for?
Good advice depends on what do you want to do,
especially when NTSC based frame rates become a topic.

you either need pro conversion or use a 24p timeline - anything else is always gonna be a compromise.

Since every movie from cinema get's a pulldown for DVD & TV releases in NTSC land,
I think pulldown method would be the best compromise if progressive result is not mandatory.

If this is the case, do the following:
                            • create a project at 23.98 progressive frames WITH pulldown
                            • drag your footage to the BIN
                            • hit ALT + ENTER to open file properties
                            • change clip frame rate from 24p to 23.98p -> apply
                            • put the clip on timeline
                            • export

I have material for small budjet music video and it is not possible to retake shots.
Main closeups shoot on DSLR 29.97
But few wide angle and panoramic shots taken same time by another camera set 23.98
It is acceptable to change playback speed. There is no lip sync or sound sync. Just smooth playback needed.
