  • STORM / STORM 2 WITH EDIUS 4.5x WHAT IS POSSIBLE?

In deliberating what Editing software I need to buy to take me further in my small business I would like to know what I can do with the hardware I already have?

Can I capture HDV with EDIUS 4.5x with my STORM 2 CARD ????

If Not then what is possible with this setup?

Any help would be most welcome

    Hi,
You cannot capture HDV with a Storm Card. You would need an NX card with the HDV card. Storm allows you to capture analogue formats (vhs and Hi8) DV and DVCAM. Apart from the HDV aspect all editing features are more or less the same with Storm and NX using Edius 4.5.

You can capture HDV with a regular OHCI port. You don't need an NX for that.

You will need an NX however if you want to have analog HD out to a monitor via a component connection.

Also post your Storm2 computer specs so we can see if you can capture to HQ on the fly.

          StormDave as follows

          Storm 2
          Intel 915 gev main board
          2 gig of ram ddr266
          3.8 ghz p4 skt 775
100 gig sata 1 system drive
200 gig storage drive sata 1
200 gig video capture drive sata 1

Nvideo 6600 video card duel head 256 meg memory

This is currently running a Matrox rtx100 and prem pro 2

But Will be used for the STORM CARD AND EDIUS.

          What is HQ CAPTURE

I also have a Pyro 1394 dv card that I intend to put in the machine also.

I am hoping to build a far better spec machine for an EDIUS NX card and the 4.5 software but what I have will hopefully make a good second machine running EDIUS for SD video and DVD creation.

          What do you think Stormdave?

Could you recommend a machine spec for NX and EDIUS.

          Thanks in advance

I think your system should be ok for capturing directly to m2t files (whatevers on the HDV tape). If you want to directly capture to Canopus HQ from HDV tapes (HQ files take more space, but are easier to edit on the machine) you will require a faster processor.

But give it a try. If your motherboard does not have a firewire port (Not your Storm) then put in the Pyro card and give it a go. You need to select an OHCI HD project from the presets.

As far as a recommended system, check out Jerry's signature. He has a good system setup in that price range.

I do HDV capture to RT HQ with a Pyro 1394 PCI-E and edit in SD with the DVStorm for frame accurate editing to external monitor.

              My system specs are below.

              ...Angelo
              Canopus/GV: DVStorm2 w/component-out board, ADVC300, Edius 4.61, ProCoder 3.05, Imaginate2
              System: MSI B75A-G43 (v2.0), i7-3770K, 4GB, HD6850, Pyro1394 pci-e, 6 Disks 2.4TB non-raid, Win7-32bit, Dell 24" & 19" LCD
