  • Council on which software to install or not to install

I ask you a council. I have always used for the acquisition and the editing (also when I had the Matrox) “a clean” system: a PC with only loaded the Suite Adobe (CS2), Office, and some small usefullness arranges (type of defrag, scandisk, audio/video viewer, etc.).
I ask to you if, with Edius SP for HDV + Procoder 3+ Edius Broadcast 4.51c on the PC,to load particular software (security suite type Norton or McAfee or AGV or Kaspersky, burning programs type Nero or Medium Roxio Creator, or "light" editings programs type Pinnacle or Magix) can even enter in conflict with the hardware/software of the Canopus (and also with the suite of Adobe) or if these programs and Edius hardware and software suite can “turn normally”.
Sorry for my english and thanks.

    Hi,
I use my editing PC purely for that purpose and no other. I do not run any virus protection on that computer as it can cause a few problems. All software is virus checked on my 'office pc' and I can run AVG 7 from the office pc via the cable network on the edit pc. I personally do not favour Norton as should you desire to remove it - it isnt easy.
I have Nero and Tmpeg dvd author loaded on my system and I have not noticed any conflicts. I wont have any Adobe editing progs. on my Edius system - personal choice and as for the latest Photoshop CS3 suite - it loads a programme which you cannot delete - can't remember now what it did but I didnt like it, eventually found a way to remove it and on next reboot lost all pc monitor views. Not too much of a problem if you have Symantec Ghost to replace the system, just a nuisance.

Dual 3.06 Xeon, 2Gb memory, NX card, Edius 4.6, Procoder 2.

I never use Anti Virus software on editing machines. I just make sure that I use FireFox (it's much safer than Internet Explorer) and use a hardware/software firewall and that's about it. Have not had any issues for years.
