  • Scrolling timeline | tips

i think a lot of users dont know that

when you enter ALT, keeping pushed,
then right clic on the mouse, and move it, left or right on the grey area :

you can scroll right and left on the timeline,

this special tip is for jerry, my best spoon-feeder ;)

I use the scroll bar at the bottom. Just because there are shortcut keys for things, doesn't mean they are faster. The shortcut is a 3 move action, the scroll bar is 1.
But it is a good tip for some.

I like the up and down arrow, when I work to the end of the timeline, I hit arrow up and it will scroll 1 full timeline section to the right.

I also prefer intuitive mouse and keyboard use above 2 or 3 button short cuts.
I wish you could zoom the timeline similar to Steinberg wavelab.
Press control and touch the timeline ruler then move mouse up or down or just scroll, during editing most users have one hand on the mouse and one on thè keyboard, this makes for fast zooming.

            In Edius, well, different :)

If you mean zooming in on the timeline scale, use CTRL and the mouse wheel.

Every software has a certain feel (drag or speed build into it)
Edius zooming works fine with the scroll wheel, wave lab works great.
I use both on a daily basis, so my wish is based on familiarity with the 'feel' of both software.

I still hate the small handle of a 2 or 3 hour timeline ;(

for zooming in and out of the timescale, I use the + and - keyboard on the # pad section, works great, that along with arrow up and down gets me moving very fast.

how did you map your up and down arrows

by default, they move track patches up and down and usually get users into trouble

In Keyboard shortcut, I map it to Scroll Left and Scroll right.
Sorry I did it like this for so long ago, I thought it was default, I keep import my keyboard shortcut to new version since version 3 I think.

no wonder you never complain about track patches that moved
