How would you apply a transition to multiple layers?

    How would you apply a transition to multiple layers?

    I have a project with two layers, the bottom is a video track and the top is a graphic that has been cropped to cover the right third of the screen. I would like to box wipe a new peice of video over both of them and I can't seem to do it.

    Is it possible to attach the transition to both layers?

    I can figure a way around it useing 3D PIP and a third layer but it would be nice if there were an easier way
