burning too slow

I operate with Edius 6.06. Recently I have found burning to disc too slow. Yesterday a 1hr 3 min programme took 4 hours to burn to disk. Also I find i have to Render the orange bits quite frequently in order to view without stuttering and if I don't render ths space bar stop start control is very tardy.
