  • Motion tracking and stabilization

    hi everyone!

I always found what I'm looking for, on the forum but not this time.
I cannot find a function or a plug in for "motion tracking and stabilization"
in Edius 4. I tried Boris 9 but it moves the whole picture so I can see the edges, and it's not OK.
    Any advice???

    Thanks a lot!!!

      Hi,

I don't know of this is what you mean?
Video editing programs and video software from proDAD are the perfect solution for creative video projects. Optimize and stabilize your videos perfectly!

It is brand new, and works as a plug-inn from Edius 4.x.
I saw it on the German forum.

you can download a free trail and give it a try.

That looks very interesting. The examples were quite dramatic. I might try this demo.

Looks impressive. How much rendering is there involved? How long would it take for a one minute clip?

I have Boris 9 and it is TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SLOW any thing is faster than Boris :)

I have ProDad's Heroglyph than I've used with SD projects for creating lined mapping trails and it's all RT.

I going to order Mercalli Expert.

              Thanks Ton!

Motion tracking is a manual process involving the Region filter and setting a motion path for it.

Picture stabilization can be done using 3D P-in-P, but it's very tedious and I recommend using a different tool that has such capability if it's anything more than one or two shakes.

With motion tracking, I wouldn't use Edius. There are no tools for it. I use AE. Boris does it too.

I DL the trial version and it took about 15 seconds to render a 1 minute clip. It worked pretty well. Some of the motion areas took a slight degradation hit but over all it made some unusable clips usable. I haven't really played with it that much, but it seems to be a worthwhile buy if it can save a few clips here and there.

BTW the install went very quickly and smoothly.

I just bought Mercall Expert waiting for the unlock code to remove the BIG "X" from the image but in the mean time I did 2 tests:

HQ 1440x1080 footage in a OHCI HD 1440x1080 timeline and it calculating 30fps with the Quad-Core all 4 cores pegged at +97%! This a first with Edius + Quad-Core +97% usage.

HQ 1280x720 footage in a OHCI HD 1280x720 timeline, calculating at 85fps with Quad-Core at +95%!

Mercalli Expert has a bunch of presets it does an excellent job of removing shakes.

Are you using the plugin from inside Edius, or are you preprocessing the video?

I watched a couple of the samples on the site and noticed some pretty bad artifacts at the frame edges at times, and I don't believe it was part of the WMV encoding. Have you run into this during your tests?

I dl'ed the demo with the big red X...it works from within Edius as a filter. DV files were realtime for me after analyzing.

I didn't like the results that much, probably because I did a quick test using the light version.

                          Give the trial a try.

Looking at my external monitor with the DVStorm I don't see any artifacts. I do notice that image is softer with a big "X", haven't received my unlocking code to see if it fixes it. I have emailed support about it. I've played around with the settings to get the "right" image control and IMO it does a very good job, it's the softness I don't like.

It's softer cause it's zoomed up slightly. I wonder how a picture zoomed up to the same extent with the Edius layout tool compares to the equivalent stabilised output of this program. After Effects has a stabilisor as well. I wonder how they compare?

The other thing is how does it stabilise (say HDV) footage shot in HD for output in SD. Assuming the motion isn't too bad presumably you shouln't be able to pick it?
