JD, you noted that it's fine on the DVD ... so this issue you are seeing with black level shifting only happening during realtime rendering/playback of effects and transitions, or is it also still visible in playback of fully rendered effects and transitions?

it could also be that his TV is set to automatic gain control or similar

I only believe what I see on my waveform monitor, if there is no shift during the transition, then the fault is with the monitoring equipment

also, never trust what you see on a PC preview mon

Nah My TV's are older but they are good...remeber they are fine in CS4, I want to give you guys some drop box links what's the best way.....
IF My render mode is set to DV and I export DV I can show you the shift...If I just perview it shifts...might be gamma, seems like blacks both are gamma I guess.....here's hwre it gets better and might explain a little why the DVD is OK...If I don't render and export to HQ then no shift but I think its all shifted...here's the drop box links

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/57722845/test.avi this one is dv codec

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/57722845/test2.avi this one in HQ no prerender is all shifted up.... so when everything is rendered to anopther codec it all shifts up. (or gamma changes if you will)

I also made this in HQ from the pre-rendered DV and the shift occurs as you see in DV

            Hey JD,

That first clip (the DV codec) ... isn't that supposed to be a Quicktime movie file (not AVI)? Any possibility you have a small sample of the original Quicktime footage rather than the DV AVI re-encode?

            Cheers
            Andy

also, the dv file is not quicktime, it is the completed canopus dv file showing the problem

but I need to see how the problem came about, I guess there is something wrong with the graphics file or the quicktime file

once I have these files, I can tell you the problem and how to fix it

                here's the graphic

I think those files are indicative of the issue already... but how can I split the QT files they are all an hour and change long...If I cut them in Edius and export as same, is there a recompress?

How are you placing the title? I just tried putting your title over your DV file and have no shift at all. I placed you DV file in VA 1 and applied the title in 5V ( my default project, 4 VA tracks and 4 V tracks). I do not use the title track at all. I can fade in and out with no problems. However your whole DV file appears to be with 7.5 setup and it should be at 0 also when the title appears it goes up another 7.5 for some reason.

I am using Edius 6.07. I can do the same thing in CS6 too. In Vegas 11 I get some flickering and similar problem to what you report. Will try and investigate further to see why I can get it to work in Edius 6.07 and CS6 but have same problems you report with Vegas 11 !!!

no problem with your graphic, does not cause any gamma changes, but I don't have a quicktime dv clip

the one you provided is canopus dv

Have you tried putting the original video files on the timeline and exporting as a HQ fine file then using that HQ file for the title overlays and final export? You should not have a noticeable quality loss.

Yes that's how I worked it out.. I went to the venue last Friday...there was setup enabled in their SDI converter so that supports Ron's finding.....in the end the I exported it all in HQ then laid the graphic..... still puzzles me some....
