  • Black Levels

    Hi All

Using 6.51...I have some concert footage wide screen NTSC DV....have some titles from the live event they want to add. I have them as PSD or TGA, when I put them on the timeline to key as lower thirds, there is a significant black level shift when they dissolve in...the black levels also shift when I start and stop timeline in Edius. Footage was captured from switcher with Canopus Firewire ADC110 I think. OnLocation captured as quicktime

    Any ideas?

Maybe check under your settings and make sure you have super white checked instead of RGB

where there is quicktime, there is trouble

check the waveform monitor in IRE mode to see where black sits, then fix it with the YUV curve

"where there's quicktime there's touble???" apparently only here in Edius, the rest of the planet seems to work OK with it.

Sadly though Anton its a shift, when the graphics go to fade in the blacks/setup bump up a bit....there should be no setup. When they fade out they jump back to zero...in still however they are high....seems like a bug. I looked at level control it has no effect at the transition point/

BTW have the QT installed by Edius.

Next time use AVI for capturing in OnLocation. QT is quirky.

"Edit Anything" they said a quicktime DV file is about as basic as it gets.... The same gfx and footage are fine in CS4

I need to see this to believe it

upload the shortest of these qt clips (5 sec is enough) and the graphics file so I can see what you see and give you the solution

Actually I beg to differ :)

What's worse is that subsequent attempts to fix the problem just seem to change the behavior, which then makes various fixes and workarounds version-dependent and results in much lost sleep and hair.

Anyway... Definitely upload a clip and I'm sure Anton will have a recommendation in no time.

If the file isn't too huge you can use YouSendIt or another online file delivery (YouSendIt has a 100 MB limit for free).

Surely there is a 'gamma' shift :)
