    yes, PAL is upper field, so is NTSC, forget what you read, it is wrong

    it is only DV that is lower field, ignore this unless you rec to DV tape

    simply create a correct preset with upper field in system settings, and then go to project settings and apply it to your current lower field project and all will be well

    lower field if for DV and you only ever need to set to lower field if you want to export to a DV tape deck or camera

    DVD and Blu-ray are upper field

    luckily EDIUS is clever and will convert to upper field when exporting to DVD from a lower field project

    but my advice, dump lower field

    Help Needed Deciding Which Video Preset to Use

    I am in Europe, so using PAL. I am unsure of which of these 2 presets to use:

    * SD PAL DV 720 x 576 50i 16:9 - Field Order is Lower Field

    * SD PAL 720 x 576 50i 16:9 - Field Order is Upper Field

    I thought PAL was lower field first???

    Now here's one of the reasons I am using the trial of Edius 6.5 and considering switching from Adobe Premiere - Ever since buying a Sony HXR-MC200E camera I have had loads of problems inporting SD files from the camera. The Sony produces MPEG2 files that are UPPER FIELD first. Working in Premiere these caused a load of issues with flicker and files becoming corrupted on import to the point that they were unusable. I have not had this problem in Edius. Well, some flicker, but maybe deal with that later as it's not such a huge issue as it was.

    I recently finished a project in Edius importing these files (upper field) into an SD project using Lower Field first. Burnt to DVD and it looks great! So, good results, job done. But if I am to continue with Edius as my main NLE then I'd really like to start as I mean to go on and get the right project settings to avoid any possible file compatibility issues.

    So, can someone please advise me which of those settings I should be working with.

    To summarise, I used SD PAL DV 720 x 576 50i 16:9 for this project and it works, but would like to be sure that is the right setting.

    Thanks.
Working...
