  • Wrong Window Layout keeps coming up

When I change Profiles, the Window Layout that comes up every time is one that I have recently deleted. (I couldn't select it even if I wanted to).

It's not a show stopper, just annoying. Now I have to select and Apply my Layout manually, from a pull-down that has only one Layout listed in it.

    Does anyone know a fix?

    Edius 6.51.

while in this layout, arrange your windows, then save layout as new name, then delete the other layout, then exit and try the switches again at startup screen

after some testing, there appears to be a bug when compared to older versions

      example: export your profile

then import your profile to another PC with same EDIUS and same screen resolution, and you will end up with factory windows layout, but most other profile settings are imported successfully. This was a handy feature in older versions, I could build PC with EDIUS for a customer and import my profile, done

so to do this now, switch your profile, then arrange windows to your liking, then exit EDIUS and start again with the same profile, now windows should be retained the way you set them

now while the project is open, switch back to the other profile via settings menu, change profile

      all should be well

Following your suggestion, I have just noticed that this isn't only associated with change of Profile.

I close Edius saving the Project, open it again and the Window layout that comes up is not the one that I closed with. It's the deleted one (an old custom profile).

When you say: exit EDIUS and start again with the same profile

Are you saying start Edius again and then select your custom profile? As opposed to it being there by default?

Naturally, as I am selecting my own custom Layout and applying it, this is only possible if I have previously saved it correctly.

          let me explain

          1. in system settings, create a new profile called XXX
          2. close EDIUS
          3. start EDIUS and select the new profile XXX at startup screen
          4. arrange windows to your liking
          5. save windows layout in view menu
          6. close EDIUS
          7. start EDIUS and select XXX profile and start or open a project

do you see the correct layout now?

if so, go to settings menu, change profile and select any other profile you may have, do you see the correct layout for that one?

now switch back to profile XXX and see if it is ok

            Hi Anton,

I have worked out the cause :

In settings I had un-ticked [Save Window Positions].

Now this is ticked, when opening the Project it's loading the last layout used - which is what I want.

                I'm a tinkerer, can't help myself.

                My logic is :

If I have a good template but may make a temporary change to a window do a job, I probably would not want that change to become a permanent part of the template.

                So I un-ticked this box.

I think the way it currently works when un-ticked is weird - loading a "default" template that I cannot edit. As I said it's deleted, so you can't load it to edit it, nor select another to become the one to be loaded as default template.

Of course, you save more than one Windows layout.
                  1: 3970X Threadripper, Asus ROG Strix TR40 E Gaming, G. Skill Trident Z Neo 128G DDR4 3600, EVGA GeForce RTX 2080Ti, Samsung 970 EVO M.2 1T, Intel 660P M.2 2T (2), Seagate Ironwolf NAS 12T, Enermax TR4 360 AIO, Lian Li 011 DXL, AJA Kona 4, Asus ROG Thor 1200

                  2: i7 6950X OC to 4.5GHz, ASUS RAMPAGE V EDITION 10, Corsair Dominator Platinum 64G DDR4 2800, SAMSUNG 950 PRO M.2 512G, GeForce GTX 1080ti SC Black, Corsair AX1200i, Phanteks Luxe, 16T RAID HGST Deskstar NAS 4T, Corsair H115i AIO, BM IP 4K

I don't have a problem now, yet I still feel that something is weird with the way the default templates are working on my PC.

If I load the default GV Layout by selecting "Normal", I get per the attachment. It just looks all wrong for a default factory setting (Single Mode).
I don't use the default settings so it's possibly of interest to GV only. I'm running two Dell 27" High Res monitors and my custom templates work well.

that is caused by an undocumented bug I think

to see the factory default, create a new profile, then switch to the new profile, now you can save a new layout and then switch back to normal and it should work, can you confirm

Created a New Profile called "Test"
                        Changed to new Profile "Test"
At this point factory default layout loaded automatically
only minor differences as you can see from the attachment

It's worth adding this is not the Layout that was the 'default" template that kept popping up when [Save Window Positions] was un-ticked.
As I mentioned, what I get then is a completely different custom template that I deleted recently.
