Unable to import AVI

I have some AVI files that when I try to import them into Edius 4 it says it does not recognise the files. Why is this - why can't I import an avi file.

Is there any way of finding out what sort of avi file it is?

I have used a converter to convert avi to mpeg and 2 of the files worked but 3 others didnt?

I seems like there a lot of flavore of avi out there now. Try procoder or another encoder to try and convert to a "normal" avi.
