Resampling Methods

G'day
Could somebody explain the different Resampling Methods with Edius 6.51?
I Edit on either a 1920x1080 50i pal or 720x576 50i pal mpeg2 timelines.
It is all for Broadcast on UK terrestrial stations.
Would I be better using Lanczos 2 or 3, Bicubic, Bilinear or Average area.
I output to MPEG2.

Lanczos3 is best in your case

Bilinear: About the same processing speed as [Area Average], but the image becomes softer. Use this setting when you need fast processing, with a softer image

Area Average: Same method as previous versions of EDIUS. Processing is fast, with sharper image, but may have jagged edges.

Bicubic: Sharper image than [Bilinear], but slower in processing.

Lanczos 2: Slow in processing, with a sharp image. Good for interlaced natural images.

Lanczos 3: Slowest processing speed, best quality

Lanczos 3 Smoother: Slowest processing speed, good for titles/graphics with vertical movements

Lanczos 3 Sharper: Slowest processing speed, good for progressive natural images

Average area problem...

I imported a little sprite of ryu from street fighter. The scale is setup at average area to show clean pixels, but, Edius dont shows the exact pixels from the image... It always changes a little bit.

How can I import that image without altering anything?

area average seems to be not so cool.

Ive done some test to scale a small image with "area average" resampling method, but the results are poor:

Left image is the original. The right one, is the scaled in Edius.


Is there a secret to scaling images preserving the pixels integrity?

Are down scaling? If so change from average to Lancos 3 -for either interlaced or progressive-
and also change your project settings.

I need yo scale a small image to 500% or 1000%. Also need that the image keeps the sharp of the original pixels, and the "area average" filter must be the goal for it, but isnt at all unfortunately.

Any ideas?

Would it be correct to say that in a 720x576 project with 720x576 footage and exporting to 720x576 (no need to downscale) Lanczos 3 has no effect and it doesn't matter what it's set to in the project settings?

if no layouter reduction is used, then it does not matter

then you would use lanczos and also for reduction such as PIP
