  • is it possible batch exporting and edit at the same time in edius?

    Hi all
Just yesterday I came across the new NLE software named " SCENE CUT HD " by Monarch Innovatives, India.
It has one beautiful application where one can export the edited timeline by marking I/O in different formats (as does by the batch export in Edius ) and can edit the remaining timeline of the same sequence at the same time or simultaneously i.e you can export as well as edit at the same time.
I don't see or cannot able to find out this kind of application in Edius of any version.
Does anybody know this application in edius?
Can our edius do the export and edit at the same time of the same timeline sequence?
If not , why not Grassvalley do something for this kind?
    Have a great day.
    Thanks.

No, but yes. I do it every day...
Because you should be backing up your projects anyway, here's how I use them...
I edit on my main PC, when I reach an export point (usually Batch Export) I
    1) save my project
    2) close Edius
    3) backup with MS SyncToy
    4) open the backup on my laptop
    5) run Batch Export
    6) get back to work on my main PC.

      Hi Rusty
Thanks for reply. But it's not on same timeline. Not even on same PC. By the way what is MS sync Toy ? How do you make back up files with MS sync Toy ?Is it in edius or it's another software or 3 rd party plug ins ? Have a nice time.

        That's cheating Rusty !
        You're using 2 machines :)

I'm sure when I batch export i.e. Mpeg2HD, even if Edius would be able to perform the 2 task simultaneous, there wouldn't be any bandwidth left on either CPU or hdd.

Not sure if this would be a welcome feature .......

As rusty described, after sometime one will have multiple computers as an old machine is only upgradable so many times, use that as your batch machine / network storage and leave Edius free to do what its supposed to do, fast stable, editing....... Not a jack of all trades and becoming a unstable behemoth:)

Or you can purchase an XRE server for exporting, but thats a bit overkill for a single user

            Hi Rusty
You said make a backup files with MS sync toy.I did that. Now I am confused.Hope you will clear my confusion.
            1. What I do next is transfer my back up file to my pen drive or portable HDD, right?
            2. then open this transferred backup project file in my laptop or another PC which must have the same edius version, right?
3.Then export it using Batch export option making I/O mark, right?
            4. while transferring backup files to device/s , do I need to transfer the captured AVI or source file/s too or only the saved project files ?( may be my foolishness to ask this but I wonder how only the project file export to the required media files without the source files.won't it ask for the restore offline clips?)

I thought of mentioning this, but it's all about getting back to work. And yes, I cheat.

Good to see you found SyncToy. It's all about successful backups. Now your questions...
              1) You should backup to an external drive. A single drive works for me. (non-RAID)
              2) Your system content must match. Fonts, effects, Edius version must be on both PCs.
              3) Batch Export does not always require marking in/out. Your export needs may not require even using Batch Export. (Burn to Disc, for example)
              4) A reasonable question, but yes, all project assets must be on the backup drive. I can't stress to new users enough (without shouting)
              >COPY all assets to a single project folder< >COPY this folder to your backup drive<
Now SyncToy can update only the modified files.

BTW, there are programs out there other than SyncToy that may work better for you.

                    Hi all
Thanks for the reply. It is more clear to me now. Sad to know that Edius cannot export and edit at the same time within the same timeline though it is one of the most powerful NLE ever. I hope The GrassValley will look into it in near future in their new version.Cheers to all and have a great time too.

I have learned lots about Edius from your posts. You people are great. Hope to learn more in near future too. Thanks guys.
