  • upgrading from 5.51 to 6.5

I probably missed this info but I found it unclear before and it still is, I"m a 5.51 user and want to upgrade to 6.5, an official dealer in Belgium tells me now that there is no upgrade option for edius 5 users, only a more expensive crossgrade option. I was thinking first to upgrade to edius 6 and then just get the 6.5 for free, but it looks now I waited a bit too long which adds about 100 euro to the upgrade path?

On the edius site it says: "If you purchased EDIUS 6 between March 2012 and July 2012 you will be entitled to a free upgrade to EDIUS Pro 6.5" Does this mean then untill end of July?

It said until July until the release date of EDIUS 6.5
We are currently after release date so you may have missed the opportunity.

    Quote:
    "Description
Free upgrade program for customers who have purchased EDIUS 6 software/hardware from March 1st, 2012 until July 31st "

If you look at the free upgrade page

      you'll notice the following sentence:

Users who purchased EDIUS v6.0x between March 1st, 2012 and July 31st, 2012 are eligible for a free upgrade to EDIUS v6.5.

So you just need to find a dealer who has an Edius 6.0x upgrade in stock and you'll be fine.

I rechecked this today and we indeed have an adjustment from register by July 31st to purchase by July 31st.

I thought I clear this up here.

Ok, thx, so I just need to upgrade from my edius 5.51 to edius 6.07 and register before end of this month? And then I"m able to get the latest 6.5 version as download free of charge?
I rechecked this today and we indeed have an adjustment from register by July 31st to purchase by July 31st.
Good to see that I am not the only one that finds the upgrade options confusing. :)

We have two EDIUS 5-6 upgrades left in stock which we kept for this reason although as we are in the UK you may want to find someone nearer to you.

Also we have an EDIUS crossgrade in stock - we have not actually got the full details of what you need to qualify but it states it is for users of "older versions of EDIUS and other NLEs". There will be some restrictions on which NLEs and what proof you need to supply but I am sure EDIUS 5 will be included. The crossgrade is only about ÂŁ50 more than the upgrade.

In our region the version 6.0 crossgrade is not allowed to be used for EDIUS 1-5. At least that's what I was told. Might want to check, sometimes these details are hard to find out.

The GrassValley site has contradictions throughout their site. Look at this page

In the large white cut-out area is says: between March and July 2012. Now 2 days ago and many days before, that same cut-out said March 1st and July 31st. They probably changed the copy to say you're out of luck, if you bought after July 1st. Just browse a page that says March 1st to July 31st, and print to screen and save. You should have a binding contract to buy 6.0 with the free upgrade to 6.5 after July 1st. But, you still need to find a seller, and that may be the hard part.

Slightly OT but has anyone received an email giving details of download link and serial number yet for the upgrade to 6.5.

I would imagine that those entitled to the upgrade will not all be told at once in order to avoid server overload.

This is what you get when upgrading terms are not clear and I honestly do not like to be left in the dark as a paying client, I found and bhought a v6.07 version yesterday to upgrade my v5.51 from which should arrive this or beginning next week, according to what "grassvally_sl" said in this thread, this should leave me with enough time to register before the end of the month and be entitled to a download only V6.5 copy as well.

Can someone from Grassvalley pls confirm this so this is clear once and for all?
