  • Edius 6.5 Trial - Test BR Authoring Workflow

    Hi,
    I tested the new H264/AVC export for Blu Ray:
    - I had a timeline with 2hours and 11 Minutes
    - I used the H264/AVC BR export with the new max. Data Rate VBR 35/37
    Superfine
    - No more lift to L.4.1 necessary to make it compatible to Encore
    - it took 13 hours and 55 minutes to render
    - no more use of Firecoder blue possible
    - we are back to overnight rendering
    - this degradation of service is unacceptable for a professional authoring
    workflow
    - no point in arguing use Quick Sync - this is for consumer PC - but not available
    for Xeons on Professional Server/Workstations

    I am very disappointed and will forget Edius for BR Authoring.

    Did you try mpeg2 in your tests? H.264 is only fast while Edius uses
    quick sync and FCB. You can export to HQ and import into FCB. It is still
    quite useable despite your report.
    There are ways around things provided the user is flexible.

      Being in the business for over a decade now I still don't get it why people judge a system by the label 'workstation' or 'consumer'. Rendering is all about CPU power. And when I look at your specs (2 x E5462) I have to say that an average consumer PC today is a lot faster than your 'workstation'. Maybe it's time to upgrade?

        You can adjust your settings for MPEG2 and fit that 2 hours and 11 minutes onto a disc. Or, just use a dual layer disc and be done with it.

        Since you have an FCB card export to HQ and import into your FCB writer software and create your file.
        What is the total time for that. It has to be a lot less than 13 hours.

        If you can't wait, then simply buy a stripped down i5 system strictly for quick sysnc encoding. This can be had for $500-$600.

        Those are some options.
