  • New cross platform codec

Will the new HQX codec, that I understand supports *.mov wrapper work in E6.06 or will I have to upgrade?

    Thanks Alan

Cross-platform means Mac users will be able to read GV HQ(X) files.

      I understand that Rusty.

I've been trying to cross platform well, media from Edius to my Macs for many years. What I'd like to find out is whether I need to upgrade my Edius from 6.06 to 6.5 to use the new codec. I'm still swapping edits with other editors on Edius and don't want to have to force them into an upgrade as well if not necessary.

      Cheers Alan

          Hi Allan

Why dont you download the HQX mac codecs from the utilities page in your GV user account... install them on a mac and try reading an HQX avi. You can also render files on your mac via QT or Compressor in FCP to share with Edius on your PC.

Thanks Dave, I'll give that a try but my experience with avis on Mac is pretty grim, hence the interest in the mov wrapped file.

Still no good though if I can't render the movs in 6.07

You need EDIUS 6.5 in order to write Quicktime files with the new Grass Valley HQ or HQX Codec.

Even with the new Mac codec, AVI files with Canopus HQ or HQX can't be used with Mac. Only Quicktime with Grass Valley HQ/HQX.

Thanks Gavin, that's what I feared. I'll wait to upgrade to 6.5

is it definite that the avi files with CHQX codec can't be used and play backed on the MAC/FCP? I tried installing the codec from GV website but I can only see the video. There is no audio available. Furthermore when viewing the video on the MAC/FCP the whites have artifacts on the video. Anyone suffering the same fate? Cheers

Since it is being supplied to a MAC, it is logical to assume that it is a .mov wrapper. Just go to quicktime>HQ or HQX and export a file. As long as the codecs are on the MAC, you should be able to edit it in FCP.
