Yes, I understand that there is a charge for this .5 release this time, and I am fine with that. There seems to be plenty of new feature to justify that. My question is, can I just get out my credit card and punch it in at GV somewhere, like I do with Adobe every year, or do I have to try and find some dealer to sell me a box with a license number in it... I am currently living in Vietnam. I don't think that there is a GV dealer here. Can I just do it on line, now that there is no more dongle??

the crossgrade will be on a DVD

the full version can be downloaded

the E6 to 6.5 upgrade can also be downloaded

I have no idea at this stage where to download? possibly from the dealers?

Mark, are you there? if so, what do you know?

Just as much as you so far.
I have no idea how the download works yet. I am guessing you just get a serial number and it activates the trial.

To be honest, electronic delivery has me concerned for the future as a reseller.

I have the demo downloaded ready to try, but I don't want to install it, start or convert projects to 6.5 only to be left high and dry in 31 days, because I can't purchase a license on-line.

A trial is not designed to be used for full on projects. It is a TRIAL....thats all. It is to test the software to see if you then wish to purchase the release version.

If you use the trial as anything other than a trial, it is at your own risk and loss of time. That is just common sense.

So what you are saying, from this, and another post, is that this "Trial" is not the final release of 6.5?? I don't follow you... I will want to get 6.5, there is no question about that, but before I uninstall 6.0, with probably a clean C Drive, and start working with 6.5, I need to know that I am going to be able to purchase a license ... If you are saying that this is not the final release, then for sure I will hold off...

Keep in mind that the trial is for evaluation only at this point. It is currently not the path to the full commercial version. (may or may not change in the future)

We will provide more information on this in the coming week.

I would not uninstall 6.07 at this point to be replaced by the trial if it is the only system you have to earn with.

Remember that most third party plug-ins are still under the process of compatibility certification.

When you have all the purchase info then you can make an educated decision on what to do.
Also as you may have noticed there were some issues brought up by users for which my answer was this will not happen in the commercial version.

I have upgraded to 6.5 in a single system if I have to reinstall 6.07 then so be it. But why with the very greatest of respect would Grass Valley complete a trial version with an option to type in a licence number if there was never an intention for people to use this trial version as a means to upgrade. Surely a notice saying "Trial version only" without any options to type in a serial number would have sufficed. But to repeat if I have to reinstall 6.07 again its is not a big deal. I am very happy with the new version especially with the chance to play with 3D.

what is the file size of the trial download?

to give you an idea, the full version is 1.42GB, so if the trial is less or much less, I can assume that lots of features are missing

                      1. personally, I prefer fully functional trial versions, but 1.42GB may bring the GV server to its knees if there are 100s downloads per day

                      2. if I would ever use a trial version, I would wipe my C drive with an earlier complete image after I am done with the trial
