  • Rendering time with Edius 6.5

We have found since we went to HD editing, that the rendering time of our stories has slowed considerably. Anyone else experiencing this?

We use Core 6 or better processors

    4 Gigs of RAM

    1 Gig video cards.

If you are comparing SD to HD rendering times, yes they will increase. You are having to encode more information.

what do you mean by rendering?

do you mean exporting? if so, to what file format and size?
do you mean rendering non realtime areas so they can be played in realtime?

I have created a simple Title with Quicktitler....and the playback of the exported file is jerky...even on the timeline before i exported , it was jerky too.
i also did some speed tests in order to compare it with Edius 6.07.
No matter what kind of material i used (SD or HD) the Rendering time was BY FAR slower.
(same configuration, used Anton settings, everything identical to Edius 6.07 Enviroment)
When i finaly Exported a M2TS file to H264 using Hardware Encoder Conversion, it took 53 min. instead of 41 that Edius 6.07 needed to do the job.

As for playback, what you have described sounds more like a setting being wrong. Did you create a new profile? Did you make sure all of the system, user and project settings are correct.
There are some new features in 6.5 that may occasionally require more cpu power than in 6.x.
Make sure to look at all of the settings.

I installed the demo Edius 6.5 and exported out a clip using Quicksync. On 6.07 that one minute clip took 30 seconds. In 6.5 it takes 40 seconds.

So using only the Quicktitler in not as serious reason for such a jerky playback!!!

There are different settings in Edius 6.5 as compared to 6.07. You should make a new profile and set up everything specifically for 6.5. I get perfectly smooth playback with Quicktitler, Vistitle and New Blue Titler Pro.
                      It's your choice!

Also... My laptop with 6.5 plays back a title made with quick title with no problem at all so there is something amiss with your system... I would do what Jerry was talking about.

                          Rendering Time

Sorry it took so long to be back. We are not prerendering the material. And yes I am talking about exporting the file. We are exporting to an MOV file. I hope that helps.

What is the exact file. .mov covers a lot of territory.
Try a mpeg2 and compare the speed. You wouldn't happen
to be exporting to h.264 would you?

We are exporting to a high definition MOV file. It would be an h264 format. 1920x1080i at 20 mbps. I hope this helps.
