Actually the output files are from Nukex, which has some kind of mental blockage producing an avi - the simplest route is render to .mov uncompressed RGBa files, which do play in Edius, but not too well - so a quick convert to HQX is easy - normally these files end up in AE which isn't a problem, but realtime playback in Edius is great when finalising compositions - hence the original question - I just couldn't get the alpha to translate - just me having a bad day - so thanks for the pointers!

If you are using a Mac, it has been announced that there will be a free codec download for use on Macs with the release of 6.5. That way you can export straight to an HQ or HQX file containing alpha straight out of a Mac.Leave a comment:

Thanks chaps,
I always use AE for compositing and matte work - but needed a quick route in Edius to avoid these .mov files, simple in the bin convert, works fine.
doh!

This is a tutorial for creating an alpha matte from a chromakey. You can pick up at the point where the green screen is gone. At that point you have an alpha.
Then go from there.
Alpha matte second tut.wmv
I show a couple of selections that don't work. When you pick the correct one it hilites the alpha matte selection.Leave a comment:

That's the way it works now. Weird that you just noticed this.
You can create a matte and do a convert in the bin to have a file with alpha.
This is one of the new feature in EDIUS 6.5 as announced.
Full alpha support and an HQ and HQX Mac codec package.Leave a comment:

HQX and Alpha
I'm obviously losing it.
I have a .mov file which is uncompressed with alpha, works fine in Edius, but it is a bit lumpy to playback in realtime as you can imagine.
Render to timeline creates an HQX file but dumps the alpha, export to HQX produces a file but also dumps the alpha - I have a 10 bit project, render is set to HQX fine - Lossless export also fails to create an Alpha -
tell me Edius can do this simple job, and its just me on a bad trip....
