Why not try the other way round?

Instead of adding echo to the groom's voice, remove the echoes from the priest's voice? I have been doing that for years already - no problems.

After a lifetime in television and sound I know it's never too late to learn so I'd be interested to hear how you remove echo from an original recording.

Of course, this is not only true but has been demonstrated many times. The most memorable for me is the substitution of the words "assassinated" and "assassinate" in the dialogue between Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn in the movie "Charade" with word with a similar number of syllables, "eliminated" and "eliminate". The film was due for release when President Kennedy was murdered in Dallas.

The producers feared the use of the word "assassinate" would impact negatively on the film (odd view I think but clearly there was a lot of money riding on the film) and wanted to re-shoot the sequence. Not only would that have been costly - it was shot on the banks of the Seine in Paris - but both artistes had already started work on other projects. Eventually it was decided the eye would be fooled and the actors did a few hours in the sound studio and the offending word was substituted.

I'm sure there are other examples but all confirm the basic principle of this thread.
