If you're encoding to a format that supports it, there will be a "SegmentEncode" check-box in the export dialog.
Segment encoding copies the parts that didn't change and only re-encodes the parts that have changed.
Works for 1080i MPEG-2 output with 1080i MPEG-2 clips on the timeline. Obviously (or maybe not so obviously...) doesn't work if you're mixing formats, since you can't "copy" non-MPEG to an MPEG stream and still have the resulting stream play. -
Just to add, segment encoding also works for standard def MPEG-2 too.
It does not support 720p however.Comment

I use disccaptured and captured from a NTSC DVD and put the mp2 on a D1 or DV timeline, I do not see segment encoding in the export window at all, am I missing something?I7-6900K, X99 Taichi, Geforce GTX 1070, Corsair RM850X, Corsair H100 IV2, Windows 10, Edius WG 9.30Comment

It's a checkbox when you use the EDIUS-native MPEG exporter. It won't show up in PCE for EDIUS, as that's separate.Comment

Ah. Not yet I'm afraid - I have a bit of work to get finished before I can have a play. A rough test I did just before looked initially to be reencoding, but it's quite likely I rushed my export settings. (you need to be precise, to ensure the segment reencode kicks in - any variance and it'll reencode for safety's sake)Comment
