editing on 607 and computer froze, task manager showed mpsegenc host multiple times, then when i shut down edius, all those disappeared off task manager. any help appreciated

I think it's dead Jim :)
There is something 'afoot' within your system. Is the system out of warranty from the box store that built it?
Based on the total sum of issues that you have had, you really need to either start from a fresh install and/or get an integrator who will work with you. This may be a problem because most integrators do not want to take on someone else's screwup.
A fresh install, done properly, never hurt any one. You also need to sort out your drive problems. Personally, I would not trust the place that built it(unless it is still under warranty). Try and find an Edius integrator in Texas that is close to you.

They may be more for broadcast, but it would be worth the call.
The only other one that I know that goes to Texas frequently is George. He supports a couple of systems in Dallas.

what operation were you performing when it crashed
what were the files used and what was the project setting
