Turn on ALL your monitors (if you have multiple) and Alt-Tab
Probably it's waiting for you to respond to some prompt.

did you copy the autosave file to the root where the faulty file is prior to opening?

the offline issue has been fixed in 6.07

since you don't have 6.07, copy the backup to the root, delete the bad one and rename the backup to its original name, try and see if it works

also when it takes forever to open, i will close it and it takes awhile to close, the loading project box will go grey for awhile then finally close

another thing anton, when i just tried to open it again, a message came up saying something like vistitle.exe must be closed before you can open a project???vistitle isnt open and its not in my task manager?by the way im trying to open another project of a different name and it wont open either. not sure what happened in one day

the root is the root of the project folder, where the project file sits

delete the faulty project file and put a backup in its place and then rename it

so delet the file first, then rename one of the autosave files that have all the number after them?

anton, i hope this isnt a major problem, but.... i have 3WD Black Caviar 1TB Each Raid 0. ON bootup, one drive says in red Error Occured. any idea what this means, and could this be the reason no projects will open

go to disk management (right click Computer/manage) and see if any drive is shown as at risk

WD black should never be used for Raid

use Enterprise drives for Raid such as WD RE4
