DV Storm 2 and Edius DVX cards

I'm buying a computer which doesn't have a firewire card in it but I have two old systems one with DV Storm 2 card and one with an Edius DVX card either of which I could remove and use.

Am I right in thinking that if I am using Edius 5 or Edius 6 then neither of them actually uses the processing powers of these cards and that I am just as well buying a simple PCI Firewire card?

More to the point there are no drivers for 5* onwards so these cards are not recognised.
