  • No Quicktitler anymore

I did not use Edius for a while (maybe 5 or 6 month) Yesterday I did the update to 6.07. Had a little problem first with my antivirusprogram (F-Secure). I disabled it and did the update again. All seemed fine after that. No messages.
Today, I spend the best part of the day on setting in and out points at the 200 clips of my next movie.
When I started working in the Timeline I could not startup the Quicktitler. The three upper options were greyed out. How did this happen??

Is it the update to 6.07? (If yes, how to fix it. There is no qtitler.exe to be found that I can add to the exeptions in my antivirusprogramm, I did add edius.exe)
Is there a setting that has to be changed?

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I checked again: no quicktitler .exe in that folder.
Next I disabled my virusscanner (last time it was not completely disabled as I know by now). I did the 6.07 update again.
Next: enabled the virusscanner again: Immerdiately a popup appeared saying there is a virus in quicktitler.exe. The programm wants to remove the file. That must have happened before. I could stop it removing this file (I changed a setting, the program always has to ask me what to do otherwise it would delete the file without me knowing this happened)

      Quicktitler is back again.

So to everybody using F-Secure as a firewall, virusscanner etc.: it removes Quicktitler (and maybe a few other files, who knows).

I personally use no virus protection on an EDIT PC

and if I was to use virus protection, I would add the entire EDIUS installation folder and media drive to the exclusions list of the virus scanner

if the virus scanner does not have such an option, get rid of it

No AV program should simply delete a file even if it believes the file is infected -- such files should always be quarantined in a location and format where the files can't accidentally be executed so that they can be restored to their original location if the user wants to.

I am guessing the OP has a setting fixed as an auto delete or quarantine.

              Thanks for your comments.

I have to use my pc also for other purposes (with access to the Internet), so I do need a good virusscanner. Last year several virusscanners were tested and F-Secure was the best in the test. My ISP includes a free description for F-Secure in their package, which means they also believe it is a good one and I already payed for it.
I did find an option where F-Secure has to ask what to do with a file that is infected to its opinion. I did not find an option where I can exclude a complete folder. I will look again.
It seems to work now. If the problem keeps coming back, I will buy another virusscanner/firewall.

As Anton suggested, best editing is without any antivirus programm on the PC/Workstation. Spend a few Euros/Dollars (or whatever) for a "surf only PC".

The newest corporate version of Symantec raises cain with the install as well on XP 32. I had to turn it off and completely reinstall Edius 6 from scratch and then update to 6.07. Just doing the update did not work. It did indeed think Quick Titler wasn't installed properly.

Also, as mentioned in another thread, I also had to delete all temp files before installation, or I would get a "Failed To Create Empty Document" error upon trying to open Edius.

Even now, occasionally, I will get the This Version Has Expired message upon opening Edius, trying to open Quick Titler, or even trying to save a project. It appears at random, and has no rhyme or reason. 6.07 also will suddenly close with no warning, and I suspect it does it when it's doing a background project auto-save.

As to why I have Symantec? Corporate dictates it for this machine. The edit bays are not on the internet, and are protected from viruses (from thumb drives, for example) by a different method. This machine, however, is a multipurpose machine.

I am sure it will let you exclude the whole EDIUS folder from being monitored

It does, and I did exclude the entire folder, as well as specifically exclude the edius exe and quicktitler exe from the realtime protection, but I still am having intermittent issues, even with the Symantic realtime protection turned off now!

Just now, I got a This Version Has Already Expired notification, where 20 minutes ago, it opened fine.

I then closed and tried reopening, and now I get a Visual C++ runtime error with Quick Titler (on Edius splash screen), yet it worked fine this morning.

                      This is very strange.

I acts like a hasp issue. I did try your link to the updated hasp drivers, but that did not help at all.

OK - all opened fine this time, but went "POOF" saving a preset in the layouter.

For now, I'm gong back to 6.06
