Thanks everyone- of course, anti-flicker is a filter! Didn't come up when I searched the manual though... I wanted a 3D effect, but it's not necessary, really.
I've used photoshop blur before, and it definitely helps the flicker- but I've also found it made stills a little TOO blurry. This is mostly text- probably one of the worst things for flicker- so I might have to try it.
I'll also try using shots of the book- the digital versions (exported as stills in photoshop from a pdf) were probably the wrong way to approach this.
Cheers :)

also, stills with fine detail such as thin lines can be fixed in Photoshop with motion blur 90 deg x 1pixel

flickering stills
Hi- I'm used to editing progressive projects now, so it's a while since I had any issues with flickering stills. But I'm working on a project for dvd (it's a mixture of progressive HDV and interlaced DV- no way around that now) using an SD 16:9 project. Result: lots of annoying flickering when I use stills (and one set of stills- which is high res, but I've both resized AND used 3D p-in-p to give some movement- flickers and looks very poor quality.)
I know fine detail in stills can get split between the two fields, hence the flickering. And I'm pretty sure there's a setting that might help. But I can't find it here or in the manual- so any suggestions? Or do I need a workaround?Tags: None
