  • Multicam and JKL keys

So, learning multicam editing techniques and trying to ulearn and use as many short keys as I can, I tried to use JKL whilst in multicam mode. Only to find that I can't swap cam views if I've set the timeline to play with the L key.

I have to start playing using the space bar, I can then swap cams using keypad 1/2.

If I want to review something I can use JKL, but have to remember to end by using space bar to play or I end up using J a lot ;)

Is this how it is supposed to work? As multicam is not supposed to be full edit option, I've learned that much :)

    Am I doing it wrong?

Are there other options for quick view/preview in multicam mode.

    Thanks,

    Graham

I had this problem with version 4.5, but after 4.51c it worked fine.

I have version 4.51c, but it doesn't work here.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm still muddling along with my haphazard way of coping with this.

Can anyone else tell me if it is me :) Bound to be really, or if JKL and multicam 1/2 don't work properly?

Maybe there is a setting somewhere, but I've had a good look and can't find anything which jumps out to hit me.

        Thanks,

It does sound like its you....sorry to say...well, not you, but your pc. I have had orblems with multi cam when using VA tracks, I don't use them any more either.

Another thing to try would be changing which track the video's are mapped to (instead of 1 and 2, try 2 and 3)

Is the footage for both cams the same format?

          What are your project settings?

Are you using a cordless kb?

Have you tried resetting your kb shortcuts?

It is often me, especially as I try to learn Edius for the first time. :)

I'll try changing the track mapping.

I'll try making some V tracks and drop them on those as well.

Yes, footage is identical, both minidv shot on XM2 (GL2) camcorders, captured identically..

            frame size 720x576
            rate 25.00 (25/1)
            1.0667
            bottom field first

            48k
            16bit
            channel 2

            rendering dv-avi
            overscan 3%

Not cordless keyboard, USB, plugged into a KVM.
Though remember it works fine when not using jkl keys.

I haven't tried resetting kb shortcuts, but again, if it works when I press space bar to start play, surely the shortcuts are fine?
JKL work fine on their own
number pad 123 work fine in conjunction with space bar.

Thanks for the suggestions, it'd be nice if some others would say if they have the problem or not. You may be in the minority with it working :)

Changed the tracks from 1/2/3 to 6/7/8. Still the same.

Added 3 V tracks and moved files to these. Still the same.

                hmmmmm.....

The reason I suggested resetting keyboard shortcuts, is because Multicam mode has its own short cuts, but it doesn't sound likely that that is the problem. I'm grasping at straws here...

Are you using a storm card?

                * try creating a completely new project, using stills, and multicam that.

                * Try using Canopus HQ as a compresser...

                * Try re-installing edius.....a last resort. But from scratch - not just the update.

                .......10 minutes later.....

It works for me at home, but not here at work.....same problem as you. Oh no.

                  JKL Shortcut vs Arrows

I tried to use JKL whilst in multicam mode. Only to find that I can't swap cam views if I've set the timeline to play with the L key.
You can use the arrows, which gives you almost realtime playback, or click forward/backward frame by frame. This gives me more control of the exact location of the cut, and switch to a different camera.

Matt, interesting, but no reply from anyone else at all to say whether they can do this or not, or from GV as to whether you are supposed to.

CVI, yes I'm working round it, but I would really like to know if I'm supposed to be able to edit in multicam using jkl or not. If I'm racing througha section I know, I can use 2x etc speed using LL, but then if I press J to slow down to real time I cannot then swap from cam to cam, without working a round the problem.

If GV are going to change anything about Multi-Cam editing, I would LOVE to be able to edit with JKL, in Multicam, in 2x or 3x or even more speed. Sometimes, editing at real-time is not fast enough! :) You can use JKL with 4.1xxx
