  • Which OS works best with latest Edius

Looking to get a laptop for use with Edius, mainly for on the road edit projects, of HDV footage.
Is Vista a good choice for Edius, or should I get a laptop with a different OS?

    Thanks

Canopus does not support Vista for Edius as yet, some says it works ok, I find it a bit flaky, better to stick with XP right now.

MS are selling new XP to resllers until the middle (ish) of next year, so if you ask for XP as your OS they should be able to supply it if they are any good.

Definitely use XP, Edius isn't the only video tool that is struggling with Vista.

Make an image backup of the laptop when you get it, then wipe it out and install XP. You may also need to download drivers for some of the hardware from the laptop vendor -- many of the Ethernet, 802.11, and sound controllers in current laptops weren't around when Windows XP SP2 was released, so the drivers won't be on the disk.

In fact, checking specifically for the existence of XP drivers for the hardware in a new laptop is advisable, as is ascertaining that you won't lose your tech support if you replace the OS. I've heard some horror stories about problems people have had trying to get new notebooks, designed and built entirely since Vista debuted, completely functional with XP.

Dell still sells Vostros with XP as an option.

Is the MAC Book Pro a better laptop solution since we can install our own Windows OS?
Or there are drivers issues as well for the MAC?

AFA Edius is concerned, The MacBook Pro will run into the same issues as any PC. A seperate partion must be used with Windows installed on it. The same drivers that are used on a PC will have to be used in that partition.

Official company stance? XPPro. Edius is not completely ready for Vista Yet :)
