  • 60d project export to Vimeo/Youtube dark

Ive searched the boards, but I would please like someone to explain the exact cause/fix for my vimeo export woes. I edit projects with MVI files from my 60d 24p timeline in edius. The projects look great on dvd or my monitor(s). When I use Antons vimeo/youtube export settings or any others I have found. The footage doesn't look very good on Youtube or Vimeo. Its a good bit darker and colors are not as on my original project.

Again, could someone please explain a process that I could remedy this.

    Thank you.

    Smontoto,

I always consider TV and internet to be two different mediums. TV is a YUV colorspace and the internet is an RGB colorspace. So the files will not look the same due to the color space differences.

So I end up with two finished timelines. I edit for TV viewing using my external broadcast monitor first, then put that finished timeline on a separate timeline and adjust the color & contrast looking at the preview window on the computer screen.

It is a pain but that is what it takes to get a uniform look.

Is this also affecting the brightness and contrast?

      Thanks!

YUV signals have values between 16 & 240
RGB signals have values between 0 & 255

This explains that Web video has darker black levels and brighter white.
When from YUV or 16 ~ 240 Video levels and going to 0 ~ 255 RGB levels blacks are not totaly black and white is also not totally white, you need to adjust that manually, also often color can use a bump.

P.S. Take a look at a great C.C. tutorial by Matthew Scott, things are explained in great detail.

          Yes, it effects everything.

Also another note, this extends into the cameras themselves. DSLRs are RGB image creation tools. "Normal" video cameras are YUV image creation tools. So your DSLR footage will look native on a computer screen and need adjustment on a television.

Thanks for the responses. I am running 6.06 right now.

Some of my videos look pretty good but some really crap out online. Definitely not what my timeline looks like.
