  • Laptop for Edius

    Guys ,
I'm in the market for a laptop to run Edius 4. I'm unsure what I should get.
Would welcome some suggestions. Bugget $1200-2500

    Thanks

I'd seriously take a look at the MacBook Pro 17", which is about $2,700 with 2GB of RAM...I'd dual boot Windows and have the best of both worlds.

Just a suggestion, but there are plenty of other laptops out there. HP, Sony Vaio's, etc.

Anything with a Core 2 Duo above 2.2Ghz will be great for portable editing, even HD content (Canopus HQ preferred).

I will second what Dave said, except that I will add that the MacBook Pro would be a waste if you are not going to run some Mac apps. If you are then it seems like a good choice. I have both the MacBook Pro and 3 different Dells. All work well.

Asus have come out with a barebones laptop called the C90S which can be fitted with desktop Core 2 Duo processors up to the X6800 (2.93 Ghz Extreme) and I believe 800Mhz RAM.

It can take a 2.66 Conroe processor (E6700) which can be overclocked to 2.93 by an included Asus utility, and with this processor and 2GB of RAM and the Nvidia 8600 Graphics card with 512 MB RAM and a 160 or 200 GB 7200rpm hard drive the whole thing is available in USA for about $1800 or so. The X6800 cpu is very expensive and can't be overclocked on the C90S.

But it only has a 15.4 inch 1680x1050 screen.

It's available from people like www.rjtech.com.
Desktop: Intel Vernonia-R Server Board, dual Xeon 5420 2.5Ghz (8 cores), Vista Ultimate 64 Bit, 12 GB RAM, NVidia 9800Gt 512MB graphics, 320 GB system drive, 2x1TB Seagate editing drives (not in RAID), 30 inch HP monitor.

Laptop: Toshiba Portege R700 2.66 Ghz cpu, 4GB RAM, 500GB hard drive

I have been using a Dell Stock Laptop for years. For about $2200 you could get a top of the line one 17 inch monitor and most of the bells and whistles!

          Check it out! :)
