  • Setting moving path of region filter

With my old storm I had a preview buttons and window to enable me to set the moving path of the region filter, and the preview would show the video in real time.

The edius version doesn't have a button to play/pause, so I have to use the main window play/pause buttons, which due to the way I work, these are on a different monitor. The space bar/enter buttons don't start/stop the preview either, without fist clicking on the timeline, but then when I've gone to the region box to set the parameters I then have to click on the timeline to get use of these keys again.

When I do play the timeline, the preview window does not show real time video, it only shows a still first frame.

If I scrub the timeline then I get real time preview in the region monitor window. This obviously is not ideal, but I can use it to work round.

Am I doing something wrong again!!! or is this how it works now?

Is there a keyboard shortcut to add the moving path particulars, instead of clicking the add button?

I do wonder - would enabling "continue playback while editing" help? This within the Playback options for Application Settings

Sorry - I misinterpreted what you were doing.

Yes, that's right - the region window is purely for the positioning of the region box - the preview monitor is your...well, preview.

If screen placement is an issue due to your monitor config, why not consider creating a gui layout (not a user preset), that rearranges the windows just for region filter config.

Isn't this a step backwards, because it used to be a live window and you could quite easily stop and start a live video and move the "region" to where it needs to be.

Say I was blurring a face in a movie and they were running, I'd need to virtually go frame by frame, stop starting, moving from the timeline to the region filter box etc.

Are you sure this is right????

Or am I not arituclating myself properly...

The decision was made to use the entire interface as the playback/preview controller for effects application, when building EDIUS. Prior to then, there was the Storm Edit model, and the Premiere plug-in model - now since the two models "fed" each other, and that there was a need to essentially "go outside" of Premiere's interface, the result was actually a third preview window in addition to Prem's, and the Region Filter control panel.

In addition, all the effects panels had to have playback controls coded for them. Switching it all over to the main EDIUS gui freed things up somewhat.

Of course, should a day come where all filters and effects receive keyframing, playback of some form will no doubt return to the filter panels.

As it stands, no, nothing is "missing" - the playback and preview occur within the main interface, and the region filter gets the static frame for drawing - much like a titling app.

Ok, at least I know what I have to do to work round it. I'm disppointed, but I don't do so much of this that it will make a great difference - hopefully.

If I use the right/left arrows I can make the video in the region panel run in near real time, which is better than nothing.

              Thanks for the explanation.

Keyframing filters and effects would be a 200% improvement. It would make
editing a pleasure and enable a lot of creativity.

I place the region filter right next to the REC window.

I place my left hand on the arrow keys (right and left) and then use the mouse with my right hand to move the region and click on the REC window when I want to advance the video.

                  It works very well.

I would also like to see the arrow keys just work without selecting the rec window. :)

I use an external monitor to watch the video, and have my timeline covering all of one monitor with the other boxes (filter/audio etc) on the second monitor. I don't (well hardly ever) use the preview window in edius.

I'm off to the feature request thread, never been there before :)
