  • FullHD performance

HDV editing ok, but editing MXF full-HD is tearing.

    Powerfull Supermicro, 2TB+4TB raid-1+5, 8GB ram XP SP2, Quattro FX 1300..

How much would changing old NHX-E1 card to new NHX-E2 better performance. E1 is in PCI-X slot, E2 to PCI-E..
Does E2 card or display adapter have more on speed of rendering.
Local Canopus distributor told me that upgrading display adater doesn't affect render time.

Disks are always optimized with Diskeeper

Whan rainy day, just google "Tekkovery Channel Productions".. some underwater works HD

    Is AVID an answer ?

Full 1920x1080 processing puts a lot of load on the system, especially if you're working with non-1920x1080 clips since they need to get upscaled.

Switching between PCIe and PCI-X NX boards will make little difference, unless there is some kind of bandwidth limitation on your PCI-X or PCIe bus.

Avid might give you better playback, but not in full-resolution or framerate.

I can't remember if those files are 8bit or 10bit.
I capture 8bit uncompressed 1920x1080 by way of my Intensity Pro card.
Yes, the system does take a hit on performance. However, if it gets to be a bit too much for the system.....mostly me...I convert the files to HQ and
I'm back in the thick of things.
I don't know if this would be an option for you or not.
It isn't the uncompressed file that I am after it is the 1920x1080 square pixel capture that I am after. You would be hard pressed to see the difference between the original uncompressed and HQ file, or even the Canopus lossless
      after conversion within the bin.
Just an option for you to mull over.

Well, I just upgraded my NHX-1 (PCI-X) to NHX-2 (PCI-e) card, not significant performace difference. Rendering takes as long as before..

What is main performance upgrade method ?

        CPU's , Display Adapter(s) ?

        Full-HD edit kills me !

You have a Z1 and an F-350, why dont you capure the Z1 in to HQ via firewire and transfer the XDCAM HD via FAM, then you can use the HDV aspect preset (1440), that takes a whole lot less resources and will be a much better edit experience

We have discovered that using a simple Intel 975 XBX2 motherboard with an E6600 cpu outperforms a supermicro X7DAE with 5140 cpu's when playing back XDCamHD files. To our suprise the cheaper 975 moherboard achieves better performance using the original mxf files. Perhaps your dealer can show you them boh so you can make a comparison for yourself. BTW we disable the second SATA controller on the 975XBX2.

Perhaps that has more to do with hard drive throughput?

                drive througput

Net exactly, the xeon system has an 8 drives (raid5) Areca controller this can provide enough speed to keep multiple HD streams possible, but the testing was done using the network storage (Metasan) over gigabit ethernet. The 975 systems can perform a HD key realtime with increasing buffer, the xeon barely holds the buffer.

                  Thank's for advice.

I'll change my 1.6 TB partition from raid-5 to raid-0. My controller is AMCC 9500S. Tested wth HD Tach, average throughput now 80MB/s. With Raid-0 more efficiency, but more risk

I just upgraded Nvidia quattro FX driver, and performance degreaded awfully..
                  SoundSoap2 crashes Edius..

What display adapter is best for Canopus use ? (< $1200)

See that you say soundsoap crashes EDIUS.
That is a know to us editors. It also slows down Edius on some systems. Remove sound soap from every clip on the time line and look if handling in EDIUS is improved.

3ware controller gave us troubles. We ended up capturing every frame as a seperate file. This didn't hapen using Adaptec or Areca controllers

I use Adaptec and Highpoint raid controllers.
                            2 hd Sata 2 300 disks raid 0, gives me bout 150 MB/s tranfere. with 4x500 gb sata 2 300 I have bout 300 MB/s transfere.
