Best Format to Export Still Image

Just wondered, which is the best format to use for exporting still image
to be used back on the timeline and best settings

On version 5.5 I used TGA but now since the new EDIUS 6.05 there are more options, I have chosen PSD since sometimes I load them into photoshop to retouch then bring back into EDIUS, I noticed that in previous there seemed to be a color shift, then images altered brigtness.

I want to be sure that there is no alteration of the original image when exported, so this is why I am unsure which is the best format.

I read that BMP is the default, is it best to use that?

There is no such a thing like the best.

Many formats work, and work well for Edius. Ultimately it probably depends more on which format you are most comfortable with in the other applications you use and strictly on Edius.

Color/brightness shifts in the round trip to Photoshop may be the result of a change in default (remapping) color space.

I've used BMP for captured stills bcause it was the default and I've had no reason to change it.

.tga is generally your best bet

I use tga

if your timeline at position of still export is over 100 IRE, then when imported back to EDIUS, it will be automatically lowered to 100IRE, this is where you see the brightness shift

to overcome:

option 1. set levels correct before exporting
option 2. set handling of stills importer to "super white" instead of the EDIUS default white
