  • Edius 6 loading time question

Up till now I have not had a problem with the loading time of a project in Edius 6.0.5

My latest project has video and a lot of still images that are in the bin (about 400 Mb of photos). This project takes about 1 minute 45 seconds to load.

Is this normal and to be expected with this amount of photos in the bin?
Edius 8.53WG, Vistitle 2.8, Windows 10 x64 Pro Fall Update, Asus Z87 Pro, Intel i7-4770K, 16 GB 1600 Corsair Vengence LP RAM, Samsung 840 Pro SSD 256GB, WD Black 2TB media drive, Intel HD 4600 GPU, MSI GTX660 2GB VGA, Coolermaster Silencio 652 case, Noctua NH-U12S CPU cooler, Cakewalk UA-25EX USB audio interface, Cakewalk MA-15D monitor speakers, BM Intensity Pro 4K, PlextorPX-LB950SA BD writer, Dell U2410 Monitor

This is normal. 64 bit addressing is supposed to get around issues like these, it would be good to know how CS5.5 is with similar set ups.

Sounds a little long, 400 Mb could be just a few images or a thousand ?
What is your project file size (.ezp)?

A small project for me is 100kb, a large project what I'm working on now with tons of filter and lots of source footage is reaching 1.5Mb ezp file size.

This long project loads in about 40~50 Seconds.

I think John is talking about his picture file size, and it sounds like he is talking about a lot as opposed to a few.

Hence my question how many ?

Most likely not clear enough, sorry ..........

You can have a few large rez, large file sized images, or plenty low megapix images, right :)

Super large will load slow, but in my experience a gazillion small images load even slower.

The file size should not be a problem for loading the EZP, it's usually the file count and complexity of the sequences and size of the bins. Again, the bin size is usually related to file count, hence longer EZP loading times. Where picture file size as opposed to file count normally makes a difference, is in timeline manipulation, but not EZP loading. At least this is what I have found when dealing with feature length movies, that consist of loads of media and very complex EZPs.

            Anyway. John, yes it's normal.

            Cheers.

            dave.

I have been away from my PC today, so thank you for the replies.

The photos are around 2 Mb each and there are 200 0f them. I won't be using them all in the project, but thought it better to import the entire folder from the SD card.

If this loading time is about normal then I will just have to live with it.

Perhaps Edius will be 64 bit one day :)

                Hi John.

I know other editors on other platforms who have similar problems. To be honest Avid which is supposed to have the best media management system, still has problems with very large media counts.

Personaly, I don't find Edius being 32bit, an issue for my workflow.

Let's face it, all users of their respective platforms, wish they had bits and pieces of the best atributes of other platforms. On balance though, for working the way I do at the moment, I would never trade Edius for anything else.

As much as we would all love to have every single thing compatible to our own individual needs. I am well more than happy to have chosen the NLE that others covet most, even if they do not admit it.

Apparently their's an app for loads of real time editing. Sorry, my bad, I am already using it.

                HAPPY EDIUSING.

                Cheers mate.

                Dave.

I don't believe that having a 64-bit version of Edius would be beneficial in this case since the the project doesn't seem to need more than 2GB of memory to load -- Task Manager could confirm this.

eliminating Quicktime as the handler of still images may improve load time

I only mentioned 64 bit because Dave did. I am happy to know that the load time of this project is normal. I don't want to take this off topic.
