  • HDV intermediate files

    Hello.
I'd like to ask a simple question (and I've already looked for the awnser usig search :D) - does edius support some kind of proxy files ?
There is an option to convert a file from bin into "offline canopus HQ" - after some time it creates a file that gives light speed editing even it's hdv. But the quality is low - no if I'd like to exchange the "proxy quality file" with the original file - how sholud I do it? Can the process be automated somehow - I can spare some time to generate proxy files but then I'd like it to work automaticly during rendertime.
    Any suggestions ?
    TIA

Sure does, captured HDV footage as HQ or HDV on HD project, then swith to DV project and have realtime on editing on 7, 8 layers or more, when finished switch back to HD timeline. (-:, the only thing is you have to resave titles so that it will have HD resolution.
But why bother? any decent computer now can do atleast 2 or 3 layers of HQ realtime.

Awesome! I'm liking this HDV more and more. This would be worth the bother (not that it is one) on a single core laptop thats not all that beefy. Great tip - add it to the TIPS I say :)

Khoi Pham - I'll give it a try asap.
But nevertheless - is there any way to replace a clip that's in 'bin' with a different file and have everything in the timeline updated ?
I used some bruteforce - change the name of the proxy encoded clip - edius thinkg it's offline - show edius the original m2t file instead - everything is updated.
But that's not elegant at all and error prone. Is there some way to link two clips - one as proxy - the second original material that's used during final render. If it worked that way - It would be awesome. You coild have a small production pipeline inside edius.

If you delete or rename all of the clips on the timeline from windows, when you open Edius, it will said that clips are missing and ask you if you want to restore, if you say yes it will ask you how do you want to restore, batch capture or relink, so I guess you could relink each clip to your new clip but man don't know why you want to do that, when the way I said about changing project settings is much faster.
