  • Multicam Performance. What is realistic?

I am doing a multi-cam project with 8 cameras. 7 SD and 1 HD. At times when in multi-cam mode I get dropped frames and glitchy playback. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if that is just to be expected with that many tracks.

FYI:Tyan K8WE Thunder - 2 Dual Opteron 285s, XP PRO, 4G Ram, Project is on internal RAID 0. Running Edius 4.51c.

    Thanks!

I have not used that many cameras, but I would suspect that with that many, you are getting normal operation. You can go into settings and change how many frames to drop and they may help your playback.

      Hea Rich,

I've never worked with 8 cameras, but it would depend largely on your drive data speeds. If you can play back in 1:1 time, you're the man!

The correct phrase-ology is "Skipped Frames" not dropped. Some may take offence.

      Not me!

Thanks guys. It plays fine some of the time, but in certain spots it gets pretty bogged down. Good to know that's what I should expect.

        Thanks!

Thanks for the correction Rusty, I was in a "drop" frame of mind.
