  • James Cameron Looking at EDIUS 3D preview toolset

    Quote: Hollywood Reporter:
"In September, James Cameron and Vince Pace’s Cameron | Pace Group and Grass Valley entered into a strategic alliance aimed at expanding the use of 3D in the broadcast industry through technology development.

As part of the alliance, CPG is currently reviewing the Edius 3D toolset with an eye toward incorporating it into a live 3D workflow, "

Well let's think about this for a minute. Someone or Some Company with credentials like that, using your product carries a lot of weight. That usually means more sales, which means more R&D development, more resources, and more features which might be something you need. I think that should make it important to everyone...even if it is not in your personal workflow.

Besides, the 3D is a great excuse to buy that new 50" 3D Panasonic Plasma (which I just did)!

This is not going to turn into a "I want this more" thread. If so it will be closed.

I agree this was posted as sharing not a thread to complain.
No one is forcing anyone to look at the 3D preview. If you are in to 3D this is a something good to look at. If it is not your forte let it be and enjoy EDIUS 6.

Do you know if the plan is to incorporate the 3d functions into Edius and have just one version. Remember the Pro and Broadcast versions of the past.
It would be nice if we don't return to those days.

Why Plasma, not LCD. I'm looking for a smaller 3D display, but those Plasmas run a lot warmer, as well as more current.

Because a plasma is still producing a better picture, but it's also a bit personal preference, like video or film :)

              You won't find small plasma's screens .........

First of all I talked to several people who were really into 3D and they all recommended the Panasonic Plasma. I actually did buy a different 42" LCD, and the picture looked good but I could not force it to use 3D on 2D signals, so some of what I wanted to do with Edius would not work. And today's plasmas are not like their predecessors. It qualified as Energy Efficient and I think the rating said it would use $21 worth of electricity per year which was lowest in its class.

What a good sales tool for you professional video people.

As in name dropping James Cameron on your clients.

So how will you edit our videos? I will use the same system James Cameron is using!!! You know, the guy that made the film Titanic.

And it also proves that once again Grass Valley did a good job of making something complicated (3D) quite easy which is what the engineers are good at.

My vote on this too, because Edius is a great product, but not to many guy's knows something about Edius. And when i look to our MC's ........ uuhhhhhh, i always get mental diarrhea when i have to edit on MC ! But every "bigger" Holywood Studio is editing on it.
