  • How to create a flag waving effect.

Hi there! Does anyone know how to create a flag waving effect over a single still image. I have a logo which I'd like to look like its a waving flag. Thanks in advance.

    Look under GPU effects .
Under ripple we have a folder named flags.Apply one of the presets done.

That looks like a transition, I need something more like a filter that car run over 3 minutes.

        It is adjustable and keyframe-able

          Make a flag-clip of 3 minutes.
          Split it half way.
Apply the transition over the entire 3 minutes.
          Set the keyframes etc.

I've done this several times and it works fine.
          Even with a alpha-part in the flag-clip.
I'm not at my editing pc now, so I don't have more details at hand here.

If needed, I'll send you later a preset I've made.

there is no need to split the clip because you can add the transition to the keyer track and stretch it to 3 min

however, there is nothing suitable in GPU transitions that can be configured correctly, it won't allow disabling of fade in, very strange, I wonder how the developers created the fade in when it does not appear in any of the opacity keyframe tracks

You can also try the Vitascene ripple effect. Vitascene transitions can be applied to just a single clip.

You will have to play around with the parameters a bit to make it look like a flag ripple, but possibly easier than trying to apply a GPU transition to the clip. Turn off keyframes first if you want to make the ripple constant.

You can't change the duration of the Vitascene effect, but you can always copy and paste to make up 3 minutes worth.

actually, splitting clip in half and stretching transition works fine but the big problem is the duration, I see no way to change the number of waves in GPU config

in Boris, I can dial in the number of waves to happen over a 3min duration to make it look realistic, no point having 3 waves stretched out over 3 min

I don't think this is correct.
If you don't want a fade you put the progress of the start to 100
You then key-frame the amplitude and frequency and if you like other parameters.

Look at something I did in 10 sec. Not great but it is just to show that you can do it with GPU effects

You can do so much with GPU effects if you take the time to see what the parameters do an how you can modify them to create certain effects.

believe me, I spent lots of time with GPU transitions and even pointed a gun at the rotary dials

Yes those encoders are not productive. :)

so how do we increase the number of waves to say 100 or 200

this was made on a lenght of 32 sec with a slow wave.
That's why it took 10 seconds to make.
On longer lengths you have to add keyframes for the frequency and amplitude. You can cheat by just using the frequency. Watch do that you do not change your windblow direction unintended

Or you can ma a loopable wave of let say 30 sec and cut the 3 minute clips to 30 sec so you can apply the loop.
                          This saves time.
