  • Edius 6 slow Startup

    Hello,
I have just upgraded from Edius 5.51 to Edius 6.05.
I noticed that the first startup is very slow. It stays for 10-15 seconds without loading anything (see attachment) and then starts loading.

    Is this normal?

    Thank you

There are threads on the forum discussing this topic, what is your OS if its Win 7, Anton has tutorial on his website
Loading up times vary with Users so I dont think there is a real answer. A full project for me can take anything up to 1 minute

Yes I agree with John, how long is a piece of string, the larger and the larger the number of hard drives hanging across your system seems to dictate how fast EDIUS loads
Even with my SSD it takes 3 seconds to get to the point of selecting a project, used to take heaps longer, if I add my USB 3 12Tb disk into the system it takes even longer

If you run an Antivirus program make sure EDIUS and all the programs like Burn to Disk are excluded from checking

Mmm...I'm talking about the time Edius takes to start (the first time), not the time Edius take to load a project (please see the attachment in my first post).

          Yes
That is what I was trying to say, the more hard disks or the greater size seems to have an effect on the start time, as if Edius checks ALL the hard drives first
To make the point, I have a firewire 800 drive WD mybook that goes to sleep if not used, if I try to start Edius when it is asleep it takes for ever to start Edius till the drive wakes up, can take up to 40 seconds for Edius to get to where you can choose the project

This has been the case for as long as I can remember but E6 takes even longer, I now only use that drive for Backup

            Very strange...
Hard disks seem not being used during the startup, while a single core goes up (in task manager).

            I have an SSD and a 2TB Raid1 ... if this is true, if I disconnect the 2TB Raid1 it should take less....right? Maybe I'll try ....

do you have vistitler installed? If so, the long startup is normal

this should be fixed when a 64bit version comes out

I had a similar problem. Mine was fixed by excluding the Grass Valley folder in Program Files (x86) from being scanned in Microsoft Security Essentials anti virus program. (Settings tab in MS)

Well, I can confirm that excluding the Grass Valley folder from being scanned the problem disappears.

                    Thank you

Excellent! I have been wondering for a long time why it sometimes can take about half a minute before the project loading screen appears. After I excluded the Grass Valley folder in Microsoft Security Essentials Edius starts very fast, every time!

                      Thanks.

Clear your temp file and see what that does.
