  • it's another hidden setting?

I know this has to be a setting. 5 never did this...

Everything I try to put on the timeline has an audio track that either wants to go into VA1 or A1&A2. My project has a music track or 3 on A1, A2 and A3, plus some clips with audio on VA1. However, I want some clips on V2 without audio. I want to just put them on VA2 without worrying that the audio is going into an unwanted track. Right now, I can't do it, and even my Matte Color inserts have an audio track. To work around, I first put the clip on VA1 and then move it to the track I want. That of course eliminates the audio issue but it's getting annoying as I get deeper into editing this.

What do I do to stop audio from coming on in the first place?

STILL LEARNING 6 - PLEASE be kind.

You need to turn off audio mapping, see this video which might help:
