  • 5.1...really?

I just want to check something here...

Are you guys telling me (after reading the previous post) that you CAN encode, say a home movie to have 5.1 channels of audio? So I could make a CG missle fly towards and then past the camera and have audio that follows it? From the front speakers to rear speakers??? Or could I have ambiant noise coming from the rear speakers and dialogue coming from a centre speaker?

I'm just a little confused....sorry if this is obvious.

I assume my authoring software would have to support this also....???

Dont try guess work in 5.1. You need to have the channels routed to live outputs of your sound card for monitoring.

Vegas 7 is the way to go for that.

With EDIUS Broadcast, you can potentially create 5.1 AC3, but you'd need to mix the separate channels of audio yourself, and remember that you don't have anything beyond 2.0 audio preview.

Really, a task such as this, is better left to a proper audio sweetening application.

I don't think Edius was ever intended to be anything more than a soild editor.

Everything else is icing on the proverbial cake.

Of course - I wasn't planning on adjusting the audio tracks in edius, I would do that In Adobe Audition. But say I have 5 audio tracks, all mixed and ready to go, how would I then use them to encode a correct file for authoring???

I don't know is adobe audition supports AAF.
I can tell you what we do for separate audio.

Previous it was a big job getting the audio out. Now with AAF the editors are happy and so is Our nice sound mixer.
After we have video lock (the final cut that wil get cc) We make a copy of the project do an export of the video. We sync that file to the count and delete the other video tracks.
Now we export an AAF we choose use original files because we have the on central storage. (nothing fancy homebrewed box)
Now in Pyramix the aaf get imported and all the bwf show up separate just as they where in the Edius project.
This is very important to mix in general noise and extra stuff. Cutting out wireless hiss ect.
AAf in EDIUS is a very nice tool. (needs a little tweaking)

Don' t think that you need a studio of $ 10.000 or more dollars to do this.
If you can buy a professional app like Pyramix native + mediabundle , Nuendo or any other app that supports aaf and video playback. A good sound interface descent speaker and your good to go. You can even install it on your Edius editor. You can then use the interface for the VO tool in EDIUS.
