  • CPU's 33% using AVCHD

I downloaded some AVCHD files to test out the native editing of them in EDIUS.

It's a nice feature to promote but ridiculous in reality.
Using Dual Dual core 5140's, 4GB RAM and EDIUS NX card I could manage but 6 or 7 seconds playback (after filling the buffer with 160 odd frames) before it stopped.

Performance of CPU's was a poultry 33%, what more proof is there that EDIUS can't take advantage of it's own features.

I then opened up Vegas 7 and could playback the whole minute. Of course Vegas reduces the frame rate to achieve this but the lowest it dropped to was 23 fps on a 29.97 fps source, making it at least workable. If I had an AVCHD camera, I could put up with that, but not 7 secs of real real time in EDIUS.
    AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, RTX 3080, 64GB RAM, EDIUS X WG.

That would be a cool feature, if Edius could lower the frame rate on the fly to alow a semi-realtime (not full framerate) preview.
When I go out, I wear my EDIUS T-Shirt.

Just go into the Playback settings and turn off the "Stop playback on frame drop" settings -- that gets you Vegas' behavior.

That's kinda jerky though - I knew about that one....never used Vegus, I thought I might be smoother???

Converting it to HQ makes a lot of sense now. :)

That's no good I'm afraid, I get about 5-8 fps

Where did you download that footage? I need some to to do some test.
              Is it a public link?

                Almost 1:3 conversion time though.

While checking out Cineform options I found this http://supportcenteronline.com/ics/s...asp?deptID=614

The forum is embedded into the Cineform frames so you need to click on the Dvinfo.net forum link, then search that forum for AVCHD, then choose the thread entitled "avchd support by aspect"

I assume that the performance will be much improved for Panasonics AVC-Intra format? And easily realtime playback? That's my main concern.

Although I'd expect the CPU to be maxing out before frames were dropping...

AVC-Intra should be a bit better, but not that great.
