I would recommend a four drive system:
a system disk, ssd if possible.
b input drive on the fastest port and drive available
(drive utilisation less then 40 percent).
c output drive on the fastest port and drive available
(drive utilisation less then 40 percent)
    completely separate from b.
d storage drive for work files.

If you are collecting large files via an input device then raid 0 or raid 5 is vital. This is due to the file size and reduction in disk performance as they fill up. I can only colect one hour of hd on a non raid 1TB sata3 drive. This equates to approximately 500 GB of data.

    main system edius 6.03 & edius 5.53
CPU: Core i7 960, OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit.
    MB: ASUS sabertooth.
    HD: OS 64 GB ssd, Data 2 x 1 TB sata3. 1 x 2 TB sata2

Thanks for your reply antonsvideo . O.K. for a third drive to avoid any decrease of disk performance . Later on if I want to treat HD footage (1440 or 1920 ) I need absolutely a RAID setup ? or can I use the same system with 3 independent disks ? Please let me know how many GB are 1 hour full HD footage ?

    Thanks

if you have a RAID setup, then you can export to the same set of drives

you should have a minimum of 2 disks in Raid0 or a minimum of 4 disks in Raid5

in your case, with a single storage disk, you can keep the original standard def files on the storage drive and export mpeg to the same drive, because the mpeg is very small, it does not really slow drive performance

or you could insert a third internal disk and export your mpeg files to that

I have an internal drive labeled DVD, it is used only for mpeg exports for DVD authoring

NOTE: EDIUS6 works like a dog when only using a single storage drive, especially the green power series, you will constantly wait for waveform redraws

O.K but when edius exports (mpeg2) to the video drive at the same moment
edius uses rendered (AVI) file which is located on the same drive .This does not reduce the performance ? Do we need a third drive to export only the mpeg2 file ?

For better performance 2 separate pgysical hard disk drives is a prudent minimum. Keep the system drive for programs and opeating system stuff, put you video data (capture files, render files, etc.) on separate disk drives.

Note that a single physical disk drive partitioned as two logical drives is still only one disk drive and offer no performance improvement.

    System disk and storage disk

    Hello,
For video editing we need 2 HDD's . The boot or system disk and storage disk.Actually I am working on analogue Hi8mm footage and want to make DVD's .The original video (AVI) of a project is saved on the system disk C: , or on the storage disk ?

    Thanks
