Looking for a shortcut from edius 5 in 6

Why do you even need to get into Trim mode? Almost everything can be done in regular mode.

That was my point. In Edius 5, if you wanted to trim to extend an IN point that you had trimmed earlier, all you had to do was press Page Up to go to the IN point of the current clip and then < or > to trim or expand. But in Edius 6, Page Up or Down don't do anything unless first you go into Trim mode and then out, only then Page Up and Down do what they did in Edius 5, but that's only if "Trim Mode (In point)" or "Trim Mode (Out Point)" were selected, because if Slide, Slip or Roll were selected in the Trim Mode box, then still Page Up or Down don't do anything.

So clearly it was faster and easier in Edius 5, why was that functionality removed?

Sebaz! It's still there man...don't stress! Once I get to my machine I'll check it for you and send you a solution. Trust me, I've changed mine back to the way EDIUS 5 did it and it works the same.

We can argue back and forth for days, but the fact is that the function is not there. What's there now is a changed version of something that worked really well in 5. It's very simple. In 5, you were cutting in the timeline, you pressed Page Up, the IN trim point was selected, and you could either trim or expand using < or >. Now you have to either select it with the mouse, or press F6 twice but only if the IN or OUT modes were selected, if not you have to click on one of them.

The old way worked fine, it was a quick way to polish a cut already made with either N or M without using the mouse at all. Now you have to use the mouse or press more keys, and it doesn't work if you were working in slide, slip or roll. That is obvious to me that it is functionality removed for no good reason at all.

Simple click a clip or press F6 that lest you use the page up and down.

What you wrote about f6 is not entirely correct. If you had selected a clip for editing you would not have to go in f6 .

So you only press f6 when no clip is selected and then Page up and down work as you want just like in version 5. Although selecting in and out depends on which direction you are going with the page up and down.
Park your playline at the end/beginning of clip and you will see what I mean.
It is different but the function of page up and down is still there.

There are a few things different in EDIUS 6. But if you feel strongly about it you can always call tech support and report it. :)

How exactly is it still there? In Edius 5 you were in the middle of a clip, you pressed Page Up, the IN trim point of that clip was selected. If you pressed Page Down, the OUT trim point was selected. In 6, you have to press F6 twice to get that, however, it also depends on which trimming mode you were working one inside the trimmer. If you were working with either IN or OUT modes, after exiting the trimmer, it will work that way. But if you had selected slip, trim or roll, it won't. The way it works in Edius 6 is fine in that after you exit trimming mode, you can do all those things. The problem is that Edius 5 had a really fast way of selecting in and out trimming points before entering trimming mode. That's something they should put back, there's no point in removing functionality that allowed to do things faster.

OK, but why did they remove that functionality from Edius 6 when it was working perfectly fine in 5? It doesn't make any sense to me, is there a good reason why they removed that feature?

OK, I figured out what the problem was. I think some functionality was removed from Edius 6, but correct me if I'm wrong. The reason why I couldn't get Page Up or Down to work but later I could is that for it to work, the beginning or end of clip has to be already selected. Meaning that you still need to use the mouse. In Edius 5, Page Down would select the end of the clip ready to trim, and Page Up the beginning. In Edius 6 if you click on the beginning or end of the clip, then you can select the starts and ends of the clips going forward with Page Down or backwards with Page Up. But unless you already clicked on one or the other, the Page keys do nothing.

Is there a way to set it to work the way it did in Edius 5?

It was Page Up and Page Down. For some strange reason I tried those before and they didn't work, but now they do.

Yes I am not behind an EDIUS system but if you go in to trim mode you will see the function and the info pop will show you the shortcut for it. :)

Thanks Steve, although that's not what I meant. When you click at the beginning or end of a clip, it shows a vertical line that is a stronger green and yellow than the normal AV clip color, and then you can use < or > to trim, or to expand if the clip was already trimmed. Wasn't there a shortcut in Edius 5 to make that selection with the keyboard and not just the mouse?

That's simple alt click do separate audio or video. (depending on what you select)
Crt click do both Audio and Video.

You can also click inside the edges without pressing any key.
