Jpg timeline quality

Hi all,
I am using the old imaginate 2.0 to make a slide show and i then add it to my time line edius 5.51 to create a dvd,
My issue is my photos are of high quality sharp images from a pro camera and lens.
After i render the file at 720p at canopus lossless its around 45gb!
i render the timeline and the project settings are at 1440x1080 50i
i am making a sd dvd not bluray
i find the images are too soft and not as sharp as the original jpg
is there another way ?or have i got my settings all wrong?
any help please!!

Ok ill do that ,but is it imaginate that softens the images as a .avi file or does that not have any impact on the result?

there is no softening when opening the IVT because you are technically loading the full res still into EDIUS as part of the IVT

Just wondering where the 720p comes from when it seems your timeline is 1440x1080i

yes, if exporting as movie, you must choose the direct show option and set to 1440x1080 or 1920x1080

but using IVT direct is 900 times faster, no need for render at all

I think he is confused with the 720P setting which is 1280x720 and SD DVD which is 720x576, that lower spec HD gives a lot of newbies a hard time from what I see

But as anton has said "Do Not Render" Edius takes it all in its stride and when you export to DVD it will all work out fine

REMEMBER!!! the SD DVD is going to look nothing like your original HD so far as sharpness is concerned

new question how do i choose direct show options? do i just add to time line?
when i finish my imaginate project do i save it as a .avi then add to time line, i cant find the ivt file or save it as a ivt file
i only can save as a ivp file ...

in Imaginate, click file menu, save as, type a name and find a place to put it, this will be the IVT that you load to the EDIUS bin and then place on timeline

this process takes 2 seconds or so

whereas exporting to direct show HD can take 1000 times longer depending on size

do you still want to know how to select direct show?

when iu save project it only gives me the ivp setting i tried to use that on time line but it only gave me the first photo?
yes how do i get direct show?
Cant sem to save it as a ivt file to add to time line ,i am rendering atm as a direct show but i dont think that will answer my question.....

OK i discovered that the file .ivp, in my bin was always the complete slideshow but i had to drag the file alond the time line to expand it to its complete duration,how bizzare??
the complete slide show is on the time line and now doing a burn ,interested to see what it looks like on a dvd?

when adding IVT to timeline, it will take the default duration that you have preset for still images

my still images are preset to 4 sec

after that, I can stretch it to any length to fit any gap, a great software

One more question, if the project is only 600mb and the dvd is 4.7gb why cant i use more space or make the same slideshow photos more cleare like the original photos ? if i have space left over on the dvd?
Should i make the jpgs the same resolution as the project settings or less

a DVD is limited to 720px wide, this is why they look lower quality

however, your source images should always be larger than the project setting, otherwise you can't zoom, all my stills are 4320x3240 from GH1 camera

and if your destination is DVD only, you may consider doing this in an SD project setting, this way there is no more downscaling when exporting to DVD
