  • Edius 6 Method Question

I know there are a lot of new methods in Edius 6 and I have a lot to learn about them, but I'm wondering if there is a setting somewhere that I can change that will modifiy some behaviour I'm seeing.

I don't use Edius in the way of most editors, as my projects are animations and only rarely involve audio.

So ideally, in the timeline I want about 5 or 6 plain video tracks, 4 title tracks, 2 audio tracks. Is there a setting somewhere that will let me setup this type of a timeline to always appear when I make a new sequence? As it is, I get a VA track and I don't want one so I must delete it, add others, etc.

Also, now when I drag a sequence into another sequence it brings in 4 audio tracks even though there was no audio in use in the original sequence. Is there a way to drag and drop the sequence and only get the video portion? As it is, I must later delete the 4 undesired audio tracks.

    Thanks for any ideas!
    Sincerely,

    Mike Truly

yes (i guess) you set it up in project settings (at the lower right int he Project setting window)there you can specify how many tracks you want (like the set you said)

Go to settings>system settings and create a new project preset that has the track setup that you would like.

Mike, is there a specific reason that you want to use title tracks? Is it the laser effect :) V tracks work better and can be used for video as well.

Thanks very much for the pointers! I knew I remembered there was somewhere in settings that would allow setup of the timeline tracks.

Jerry, I just have always used the Title tracks... I didn't know that you didn't need to.

            Thanks again.

One advantage of the title track is that you get an automatic fade-in/fade-out when you create a new title. Not a big deal but it does save a couple of steps. Usually my titles are very simple and I don't add any effects to them, so the title track suits me fine most of the time.

Mike, using a V track allows the use of other GPU effects that support alpha processing. Although it automatically applies the fade in fade out, with the handy little fade in fade out buttons on the timeline header you can do the same effect in a total of 3 clicks. But you have opened the door to using any track that you wish in what ever way that you wish.

OK, I'm coming back to this issue once again as I'm not sure I found the answer to the second part of my original question.

When I drag an HQ file from the bin to the timeline and drop it on 1V, I get two audio tracks added in 1A and 2A. I would like to simply have the HQ file dropped on 1V and not get any audio tracks.

I have discovered that If I drag the HQ clip and drop it on 2V... I get no audio tracks (as desired). Then I drag and drop the clip from 2V onto 1V and I now have the clip on 1V with no audio tracks (as desired). This is good. But I'm wondering... is there any key combination that when I drag and drop the HQ clip directly onto 1V that I could get no audio tracks?

                  Thanks!
                  Sincerely,

                  Mike Truly

Just mute the audio before dragging the clip.
