  • Deleting finished projects

I have edited several projects on my system and would like to clear out some of the older ones. I looked for "Delete Project" (and several variations of that idea) in the Users Reference Guide index but can find nothing to describe the process of deleting a project and it's related files. There is quite a bit to say about starting a project, but how does one go about completely removing a finished project?

        Hi Victor.

I know this may be too late, but. In the future, if you could create a master project folder and use this to capture and or move all your media to for that particular project. Then at the end of your project you can either move/backup the whole folder elsewhere for archiving, or just delete it.

I assume from what you are saying, that your projects probably share similar media folders (not necessarily media but the actual folder). This being the case you would have to sift through a lot of media and identify what is from what project, and delete accordingly, a real pain. What you could do is. Consolidate your projects to new separate project folders, do one for each project. Although you will be duplicating media at this point, don't worry. Once you have made your consolidated project/folders, you can simply delete all the original data. All you have now is the individual project/folders that only have their own unique content etc. You can now either backup or delete, safe in the knowledge that you are not going to delete any media you should not. During the consolidate there are a few options. I would recommend not trimming and moving to a new location without deletion at that point. Without deletion at this point is important, as you may delete some media that may be shared with another project before it too is consolidated.

        Hope this helps.

        Cheers.

I am not sure I would use the consolidate in 6.03 - it works but there are some oddities like renaming all the clips to incomprehensible names, but the media still shows as being linked to the original files.

There is no delete project in EDIUS you really just have to manage it all yourself.

            Hi David.

Consolidate for this purpose will work as expected. Following the workflow that I have suggested will leave the Edius media bins intact with the right names etc.

As for the physical media being re-named, this depends on a few variables including media type and type of consolidation. But there is also a way around this. By importing an EZP into any other project/EZP the naming of the imported EZP's media will be correct. Even a pre-consolidated EZP's media associated with that EZP, will be correct after inclusion into the subsequent project EZP. Again, a number of variables have an affect on this, but it is all doable. Check out this post for more details.

            Cheers.

            Dave.
